Overview of Simulation

The simulated software tutorials are designed to replicate the environment of Outlook 2007. Though the environment will look like the real thing, interaction will be limited to that in the tutorial. While we understand that there may be various ways of performing a function, we have chosen to keep you to the basics. It is paramount that you follow the guided directions as the assessments will tally unneccessary or wrong clicks.

For each lesson tutorial, there will be also be an assessment. The assessments are designed to be a continuation of the scenario-based tutorials that will require you to apply the skills learned from them. Slightly different that MyITLab, we hope that you will find these tutorials both practical and beneficial.

What You Need to Know About the Tutorials

Setting Your Screen Resolution

The simulations were recorded at 1680 by 1050 pixels. Any resolution that is similar or higher will be fine.

Preparing Your Browser

The first thing to do is to prep your browser. The tutorials were designed to simulate the environment of the software and having it run inside of a scrollable browser window may be distracting. It is recommended that you run the simulations in FireFox and to turn off the browser's toolbars which may cause it to scroll.

To turn off the toolbars in FireFox, select VIEW>TOOLBARS> and deselect NAVIGATION and BOOKMARK.

You also want to turn off the VIEW>STATUS BAR which runs at the bottom of your browser.

Controlling the Tutorial

The tutorial is self guided and will walk you through what you need to do at the appropriate time. Unlike previous simulations, these have animated text that you will need to pay attention to. If you find the speed to be either too fast or too slow, you can use the timeline control bar at the bottom to make adjustments.
